getting older -blog 8

In other cultures people look up to older generations. They are considered wise and are respected. Here it doesn’t seem that way at all. Older woman are getting face lifts and Botox, trying to look younger. In today’s world we look at getting older as a negative thing. I am a fan of lotion and natural things that keep your skin healthy and wrinkle free but we have taken this to a totally unhealthy level. Women are having surgery on their faces to lift them up!! How crazy is that? The main reason I hear is, I want to look good. We look at models and see perfection that is beyond anyone’s reach. Not even the model is that perfect but yet we seem to want to be like them. I think that if we had everyday looking models things would change. We have this unrealistic view and expectations of how woman should look and act and it is ridiculous. I am all for wanting to look and feel good but there has to be a boundary, and I think that surgery and Botox is stepping over the boundary.

  1. I definitely see that older women want to look young. We take it as a compliment if people say oh I thought you were younger. However if people say even a year older than what we are, more than likely one will be offended. I know when people ask me how old do I look; I choose not to respond because I do not want to be wrong and hurt their feelings.

  2. Where I come from the women age gracefully. I my family the older you get the better you look. We adore getting older, and we respect and admire the older women. They are always giving us advice. I look a lot younger than my age, but I really don't care what others think of my looks any way. My husband is happy and so am I.

  3. If we accept who we are life will be much more better. Most of the older women taking part in surgery needs to accept the fact that they are aging and it is part of life. If you practice healthy lifestyle while young their is no reason to look bad when you are againg. Most women that participate in botox and surgery lived an unhealthy lifestyle and it starts to show as soon as they start aging thinking surgery will help but i think it doesn't.

  4. It is not the same for men and women when it comes to aging. Women who have wrinkles are considered old men who have wrinkles are usually considered wise old men! I understand that healthy living is a part of aging gracefully and also understand a women's need to look good. I believe that if a women has botox or surgery for the right reasons then it is OK but knowing who you are and that your importance is not based on the way you look should be what we focus on.

  5. I agree that extreme plastic surgery is not called for. I do think that a large part of the fear associated with getting older is because many women just give in to society's expectation of their defeat. I am not saying that I support that view in any way, but the truth is that women can be their own worst enemies. If younger women were taught to view older women as viable and capable, there would be more support to encourage women to continue respecting themselves as attractive individuals.
